Each intern is given a developmental folder. For the intern their folder serves as a daily log,
and a permanent place for organized turf and professional information. I use the folder to
gauge the individuals self initiative and organizational skills.

The daily log sheets are a great learning tool for interns to begin their understanding of our
overall operation. They are expected to fill out: weather conditions, job quality tips, ways to improve, a Spanish word of the day, and communication observations. The folder is
categorized into 31 sections such as boom spraying, weeds, disease, irrigation, fertility, etc. Within these sections, interns place interesting turf articles, specific notes, fertilizer rates, equipment settings etc.
Interns leave Victoria with an accurately written account of their experience, and an
organized way to retrieve important information.

Each intern is assigned a volunteer position at a major golf event. In 2007 Victoria National interns volunteered for the: U.S. Open, PGA Championship, USGA Senior Open, and The Memorial. While gone, we pay each intern for a forty hour work week. The interns are responsible for their own travel expenses. Lodging and food are provided through the host club.

We run a tight ship. Professional presentation is expected daily. Uniforms are provided.

Our interns receive a lot of support throughout the summer. Having many assistants on staff increases opportunities for our interns to ask questions, gain additional training, and build strong relationships for the future.
We value our intern program as it serves as our foundation for recruiting future Victoria National Assistants in Training (AIT’s), Spray Technicians, 2nd Assistants, and 1st Assistants. The best interns each year may get invited back following their graduation.
At each step along the way they will reach new heights of responsibility and opportunities. For example:
AIT’s will have the opportunity to work down South during winter months, and will also have the opportunity to work a championship throughout the year.
Our Assistants also receive special leadership training and professional assistance. Senior Assistants will have the opportunity to attend the GCSAA National Conference and Show each year.
Keep in mind, responsibility also grows at each level!

Our Fazio Dorm. We have free, on site housing. Two dormitories house two students each.

Can you see yourself playing here? Our interns have golfing privileges.

As long as we feel our interns made a strong effort during their time at Victoria, I will help and support them in whatever direction they choose to pursue. Are you up for the challenge?
