Over the last century, nearly all of the land in this region was stripped of its coal and its beauty through surface mining. The 418 acres that make up Victoria National Golf Course are no exception-once part of a vast open coal mine, where coal excavation and transport left deep gashes in the earth.
But nature persists. And over time, it reclaimed the land. The scars left from its storied past are now some of the most stunning features of its natural beauty. Once open pits, the deep spring-fed lakes abound with fish and vegetation. Once exhausted land is now covered with lush grasses and trees. Birds and wildlife have returned in greater numbers than ever before.
And it’s with profound respect for nature’s great skill that Tom Fazio approached his own work on this land. Fourteen holes have water features, and every shot enjoys the dramatic terrain and natural wonder of this remarkable setting.
